Becoming A Jones
Developed as a family dramedy for television, Becoming A Jones is based on a true story about a young girl named PAIGE. Life at home can be difficult for Paige. Her mother MYA has two jobs, stacked bills and is going through her fourth divorce. After conflict with her mom, Paige runs away from home and moves in with her best friend ANTOINETTE JONES. Antoinette sneaks her best friend in, unbeknownst to her father LLOYD. Lloyd Jones is a divorced single black man raising Antoinette and younger daughter TERESA. While the girls make great effort to keep their secrets hidden, Lloyd and Mya continue to disagree about what's best for Paige before finally concluding that Paige is seemly best in Becoming a Jones. The 13-year old runaway finds acceptance within this black family where she could not in her own. She also experiences the richness of the African-American culture and develops a keen sense of awareness to what has been described as the black plight. Many of her experiences in becoming a Jones are filled with laughter and tears but mostly love and for the first time in her life, the importance of family and a spiritual foundation. Awkward at first, Paige eventually becomes comfortable in her new surroundings and begins to the see Antoinette and Teresa as her sisters and Lloyd as her father.
